Afformations®: The Miracle of Positive Self-Talk
By Noah St. John

Empowering questions are those that have precisely the opposite effect of their negative counterparts …. empowering questions unleash your ability to take action and Express Who You Really Are.
— Noah St. John

Noah’s book takes positive affirmations to a whole new level!  Rather than telling ourselves what we want to happen, we ask ourselves empowering questions about where we want to go and what we want to happen in our lives.

According to Noah, our minds responds more powerfully to questions that we ask ourselves and others.

If you have done positive affirmations and have not gotten the results you wanted in a particular situation, I recommend you stay tuned for the next few days as I share the Afformations 4-step method that Noah outlines in his book.

Step One (of the Afformation Method):  Ask yourself what you really really want…. You can use goals you’ve already written, or you can start from scratch.
— Noah St. John

When my husband and I were first dating, he asked me this seemingly very strange question:  What do you really want from life??

At the time (20+ years ago), I had no idea.  I could give you a long list of things I DID NOT want, but not a list of what I did want.  But then, I had just left a very bad relationship and was still healing.

fter a time, I began to think about what I really wanted.  I read a Myers-Briggs personality typing book and found my perfect mate — and I devoured the entire section of the book in one reading, knowing that was the man I wanted in my life.

As time passed and I gave the book back to Malcolm, I realized that he was the person in the passage I had read in the book.

Okay, enough of the love story …. but hopefully, you understand the concept.  Until you truly decide WHAT you want, you will probably just float around aimlessly hoping your best good will find you.

And that is not the way it works!

Step Two (of the Afformation Method):  Form a new question that assumes that what you want is already true.
— Noah St. John

Noah describes this as the key to creating afformations that will change your life:  Assuming that what you want is already done, has already happened, or, one way or another is true!

When you ask yourself these empowering questions, you are making these thoughts conscious in your thinking, thus, programing your mind with positive information rather than the typical negative thought we tend to roll around in our heads.

Noah suggests starting these questions with WHY …. why am I so successful?  Why am I so rich?  When you phrase these question as WHY, your mind immediately works on seeking the answer to the question rather than worrying about the HOW.

Now take your list of goals, and turn them into WHY questions.

Step Three (of the Afformation Method):  Accept the truth of your new questions … focusing on what you have instead of what you lack.
— Noah St. John

The beauty of this method is that the mind subconsciously begins to find the answer our questions the minute we ask them.

In order to make these questions true for you, Noah suggests using the four modes of human communication:

  1. Read them
  2. Write them
  3. Say them
  4. Listen to them

The best of the four is ‘listening to them’ because the more you say them, the more you believe them and the more you drown out any negative thoughts and reflections.

And how often should you read, write, say and listen to your Afformation questions?  As often as necessary until you implant in your consciousness your new, empowering beliefs.

Step Four (in the Afformation Method):  Take new actions based on your new assumptions about life.
— Noah St. John

Our actions are always based on our beliefs.  If we feel we cannot do it, then we can’t.  But if we empower ourselves by believing we can do it, we will succeed!

One of the reasons we succeed with what we ‘afform’ is because we believe so strongly, that we continue to knock on doors until we get the answers we want!  In other words, we don’t give up.

In his book Noah used the example of Jack Canfield and the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book series.  Did you know that Jack received 144 rejections before he finally found a publisher who would publish his book? The secret:  He believed so strongly in his idea that he kept meeting with publishers until he got the answer he wanted.

In conclusion, I would like to quote Noah:

The point of Afformations is not to try to trick your mind, but to use it properly.

Let’s use Afformations to create a positive life and business!
