The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity
by Julia Cameron
Creativity is the natural order of life. Life is energy; pure creative energy

I never truly appreciated what Julia had to share in her book, The Artist Way, until the last couple years.
I hate to admit that I bought her book nearly twenty years ago, only to find it too deep, too intrusive and too demanding with her exercises. Unfortunately, I gave my copy away several years ago!
Now, reading it again after so many years, I find her principles and practices very enlightening. Many years ago, I rebelled at the thought of journaling every day — but I now engage in the very practice that repelled me so long ago.
Over the next days and weeks prior to Christmas, I want to share some of her Basic Principles to see if they touch you as much as they touch me!
There is an underlying, in-dwelling creative force infusing all of life — including ourselves.
Have you ever consider yourself to be a creative force?
Look at nature: It is ever evolving and creating itself — from the plants that bloom and grow in the spring, to the animals and insect that give birth and hatch during the year.
So if we can see the creative force in nature, can we not accept that it is within ourselves as well?
If you make a product, this is, obviously, an extension of the creative force Julia is talking about.
What other ways do you see the creative force at work in your life?
When we open ourselves to our creativity, we open ourselves to the creator’s creativity within us and our lives.

Regardless if you believe in God or Spirit or some force in the universe, you probably recognize that there is a creativity inside of you that feels like a talent that is beyond you as a person.
At least, I feel that way sometime (and, technically, I don’t really create tangible products)! It is like when you get a really cool idea — often out of the blue — and wonder where that came from!!
Personally, I am an early morning person. Try as hard as I can to sleep in late, I typically wake up around 6:00. Even if I don’t get out bed right away, my brain instantly starts working. And then, is the time that these creative thought flow through me.
I think this comes from the Great Creator, Spirit, or God! What do you think?
