Inspirational Biz Tips from Buddha

A series of Business Tips from Buddha

Gautama Buddha (c. 563 BCE/480 BCE – c. 483 BCE/400 BCE), also known as Siddhārtha Gautamam Shakyamuni Buddha or simply the Buddha, after the title of Buddha, was an ascetic and sage, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. He is believed to have lived and taught mostly in the eastern part of ancient India sometime between the sixth and fourth centuries BCE.  Gautama is the primary figure in Buddhism. He is recognized by Buddhists as an enlightened teacher who attained full Buddhahood, and shared his insights to help sentient beings end rebirth and suffering.

We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.
~ Buddha

Buddha is just one of many wise sages that tells us we become what we think.

Dwelling on negative thoughts and beliefs infects our mind in a negative way.  On the other hand, when we dwell on the positive goodness of life, we experience joy. So joy follows a mind that dwells on pure thoughts.

It takes practice to learn how to focus on the goodness of life.  Life is assaulted by bad news, unfortunate accidents and occurrences.  But we need to keep our mind on the things of life that are pure, beautiful and joyful.

What are you thinking about today?  I hope it is thoughts of success, joy, and fulfillment!

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.
~Buddha

I love Buddha’s analogy to lighting candles.  No matter how many candles you light from the original one, neither the candle nor the flame is adversely affected by it.

Likewise, happiness increases when you share it — as does love, peace, compassion ….. When we share our good fortune, no matter what form, it increases around us!  Have you noticed when we smile at someone, they smile back?

How about success then?  If we share it, do we lose it or does it multiply?  Well, when we share are products with store buyers, we are building our success as well as the store’s success.  When we sell to consumers, they share their ‘prize’ with their friends which can increase success.

Share your gifts with everyone.  Anything less would make our world smaller, not bigger!

To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one’s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one’s own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.
— Buddha

Having a great life, health and happiness is not dependent on outside occurrences or circumstances.

According to Buddha (and other great sages), our happiness is determined by our disciplined mind.

How do you suppose that works?

If we decide we are happy and train our minds to see happiness in all circumstances, we are on the way to controlling our mind to be happy — even during difficult situations.  And when we are happy, we share that happiness with those around us.

Isn’t this also the way to bring peace into our corner of the world?
