One of the best ways to increase your sales and wholesale accounts is to find and hire a sales representative — commonly referred to as sales reps.
Sales reps, unlike wholesalers or distributors, who take actual possession and ownership of the merchandise at discounts from the wholesale price, are a contract sales force representing the company or companies they work for. Typically they are paid a percentage of the wholesale price on the accounts they open, or to all accounts in their exclusive territories, the month after an invoice is paid by the retailer (wholesale account). Here are some ways to connect with Sales Reps:
- Visit your local retail outlet, where your products would fit in. Strike up a conversation with the manager or buyer. Find out who their reps are and how they buy for their store. In the case of a chain-type store, you can glean lots of good information from your local retail buyer and may even get your products in their store!
- Attend the closest Wholesale Gift Show and/or Gift Mart. Seek out the sales reps or rep organizations that may be willing to represent your products to their buyers.
